How to remove the front fairing on a 2000 CBR-600 F4

Time required: 30-45 mins for removal, probably more for installation
Level of difficulty: Moderate
Tools needed: Stock allen wrench, Phillips head screwdriver, lots of patience
I am not responsible for any damage caused by these instructions. Proceed at your own risk. I do my best to make sure they are accurate. Always wear the proper safety gear and use common sense.

1. Remove windscreen (Optional) and mirrors.

2. Remove the duct covers (If need reference, covered in fuel tank removal)

3. Take off the plastic trim around the gauge pod (goes from the duct covers up to the windscreen). This is done by taking out the two screws and one bolt per trim piece. Both screws connect to the front fairing, one aimed toward the front of the bike and one directly under the handlebars. There is also a pop screw where the two trim pieces meet.

4. Remove the 3 bolts on each side. Careful, after this the fairing will be loose, be gentle.

5. Tilt the fairing forward to get access to the wire plugs. You will need to unplug all the turn signal wires and the pull off the headlight plug. The headlight plug is not clipped on but held on by friction, just apply firm pressure to detach. Also don't forget to pull off the small air tube that connects under the fairing (it joins at one spot but then splits to two... just disconnect at the one spot).

6. After this carefully remove the fairing and place it on the ground. Now your bike will look like its been in a wreck.

Installation is a bit trickier as you have to take lots of time to realign everything... the ram air tubes, the holes in the fairing stay, reconnecting the wires and air tube, etc. I would highly recommend you get a buddy (or a significant other) to help you out. Do not try to reinstall the front fairing while you are in a hurry, you WILL get frustrated and probably end up breaking something.

This tutorial has helped people since May 4th 2004.
